A collaborative step toward life-saving Kangaroo Mother Care for the most vulnerable newborns.

On 31st July 2025, a significant step toward strengthening newborn care in Jammu was taken when Vidushi Sharma, State Program Coordinator, along with Dr. Sanjeev Digra, HOD of Paediatrics at SMGS Hospital, was invited by Rotary Club Jammu Stars to present a proposal for establishing a Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) Unit at the hospital.
During this meaningful session, a letter of appreciation and a detailed proposal were formally presented to the esteemed Chief Guest, Rohit Oberoi, District Governor. The discussion highlighted the mission of Children in India and emphasized the life-saving potential of Kangaroo Mother Care for preterm and low birth weight babies.
KMC is a low-cost yet high-impact intervention that promotes warmth, breastfeeding, bonding, and survival—especially critical in resource-limited settings. By placing mothers at the center of newborn care, KMC not only improves health outcomes but also strengthens emotional connections during the most delicate stage of life.
We are deeply grateful for the warm and encouraging response from Rotary Club Jammu Stars and look forward to a meaningful collaboration that enhances neonatal care services in the region. Together, we can ensure that every newborn—no matter how small or fragile—receives the care, protection, and love they deserve.
